Profile and Reviews for Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre

The Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre consists of three branches; the Arambol and Dharamkot centers, as well as the Himalaya Shanti Om Ashram. The Arambol and Dharamkot centers were both established in 1985 by Anand Sagar (Sharat Arora), a long term student of BKS Iyengar. Sharat’s priority of living and practicing in a natural environment led him to choose Goa, best known for the safest beaches in India and Dharamsala situated in the Himalayas. The Himalaya Shanti Om Ashram is our new Retreat Centre, which is a natural extension of our work that represents the principles guiding us in our journey. This new Centre is a four acre piece of land located on the banks of a little river, coming straight from the snowcapped peaks of the Himalayas, one-hour away from our Dharamkot Centre. These centers offer various yoga and meditation courses to suit the requirements and time frames of students.   Courses offered

  •     Basic yoga classes
  •     Week-long yoga classes
  •     Intensive yoga courses
  •     Yoga teacher’s training courses
  •     Therapy courses
  •     Special courses
  •     Yoga for women
  •     Yoga for children
  •     International yoga workshops

The courses are informative, motivational and above all experiential.

I have been practicing Iyengar yoga for 4 years in Italy and when I decided to travel for a few months in India I started looking for a place to practice yoga. I found HIYC online and I decided to include a trip to Arambol in my travelling.

During my first 5-day course I was really surprised how much attention is given to the work in the feet. I knew I had no control over my feet and I was convinced there was no way I could gain it. I was really surprised, therefore, to see how quickly I could get back in touch with my body (starting from the feet!) and how much more aware of my sensations I was when giving my full attention to it! After my first week I was so enthusiastic that I ended up attending 4 other 5-day courses and decided to make an Intensive Course Chakras & Evolution of Consciousness with Sharat Arora.

The first change I could observe and feel was in my mind. I became calmer (a real achievement for someone like me!). For this reason I decided to drop what I was doing before and continued following Sharat’s method. Practising yoga at HIYC means to bring awareness in your practice and consequence in your life. Of course we use the body in the asanas and this is good on the physical level but the real reason I practice yoga now is to undertake spiritual growth. I feel I have been given a tool through which I can work to improve my posture as well as to improve my life!

Yoga is my passion, path, which I want to follow! The first delight during my first stay in India was awesome! Shortly after returning home, I decided to practice yoga in a very serious way. And that’d become my daily routine. And so, three years have passed. One day I’d felt that I wanted to know more about it, to know the philosophies, to know the other teachers…I decided to go to India. And that’s why after 3 years, I said to myself: it’s time to go. Question: where to go and to whom? There’re a lotttt of yoga schools. However, many teachers in my way, highly recommended the school of Sharat Arora. That’s why I went there too :-)

It’s passing another month of my yoga studies and the longer I’m in HIYC, the more I feel that I’m at home and more I need to learn. And it makes me happy! I feel that I have found my place, and a teacher who I had to meet in my life! The right place, this teacher and this time! If you are looking for your way and you love yoga – do not hesitate! HIYC doors are always open! I recommend!

I have an opportunity to explore the HIYC Goa centre situated close to Arambol natural beach. It is an amazing place for those who love Yoga combined with sunshine and tropical mood in the air. The centre is planted under the coconut palms and provides 2 Toga halls, authentic bamboo huts for rent and clean environment for Yoga experience. Yoga practice in the Yoga hall has powerful ingredients of sunrise and sunset which you can observe because the walls are transparent.

HIYC in Goa is tropical paradise where you can dive into ocean of Hatha Yoga guided by experienced Yoga master – Sharat Arora
